Verify Instagram

Instagram verifies by signing in, but Instagram itself only allows this for Professional accounts — that’s the free Business or Creator account type, not a personal one.

Switching is free and reversible. In the Instagram app: Settings → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account. Creator is the usual choice for individuals. You don’t need a Facebook Page.

  1. Make sure your account is Professional (see above).
  2. On Edit profile, put your username in the Instagram row and press Save handles. We overwrite it with the username Instagram returns, so it always matches the account you sign in with.
  3. Press Verify and sign in to Instagram, then approve the read-only request.

If Instagram returns an error mentioning a tester or professional account, it almost always means the account is still personal. Switch it and try again.
