Identity verification for backers
Identity verification is optional. You can back a creator at any amount without it.
It used to be required above a threshold, back when backings were charged through SponsoredBy’s own Stripe account. They’re now charged directly on the creator’s account — the creator is the merchant of record — so the check no longer gates anything.
If you’d still like your identity confirmed on your account, it’s a quick photo of a government ID plus a selfie, handled securely by Stripe Identity; we only receive a verified / not-verified result. You only do it once, and a one-time fee applies, shown before you confirm.
If you’ve already completed Stripe Connect onboarding as a creator, your identity is already confirmed and you won’t be asked again. If a check doesn’t complete you can retry, or ask us to take a look.
